Description
Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith skilfully rewrites the past to suit the needs of the Party. Yet he inwardly rebels against the totalitarian world he lives in, which demands absolute obedience and controls him through the all-seeing telescreens and the watchful eye of Big Brother, symbolic head of the Party. In his longing for truth and liberty, Smith begins a secret love affair with a fellow-worker Julia, but soon discovers the true price of freedom is betrayal.Reviews (1)

I didn't like it. But it was incredibly genius and horribly interesting. I hated and loved it. I can't stand distopias and this was the best or the worst (depending on the view) I've ever read. Everybody MUST READ IT! Don't expect it to be funny, relaxing or entertaining, because it isn't, it's much more. I am saying this, who want all books to have a happy end and hate all the tragical, serious stories. You must read it. I had to read it. So I don't care about your objections, if you are around 14, learnt the 20th century (In Europe) and understood it, you must read this book. Don't be surprised, it'll be horrible! Everything in this book is tough, tougher than in young adult distopias I usually read. In my opinion the book has no mistakes. It is perfect in its genre. In opposite I can't say anything, I liked except of that it was interesting. The imagined future in the book is horrible and frightening. A world where you haven't got any freedom, because Big Brother is always watching you. Where if they say that two plus two equals five, you don't have any doubt that it is true. Even if they said a wholly different answer the last week you will think that it has always been true. Unbelievable? I'd thought so, then I read the book. Nobody wants to live in that world. Consequently this books warns us that if we will ever find signs, that our world is becoming like that one, we must do something. Life wasn't like that in the author's predicted year (in 1984), but it can happen any time in the future. As a result you must read this horrible and incredibly genius novel!
